Laibuyi, formerly known as laiwenjun, was born during the reign of Emperor Huizong of Song Dynasty. It is an indispensable part of the history of geomantic omen in China and is honored as one of the four great ancestors of geomantic omen. The following is a detailed introduction to laibuyi’s theory and practical application of Geomatics:

1、 Theory of geomantics
Compass Innovation:
Raibuyi has made an important innovation in the geomantic instrument compass. He discovered the change of magnetic declination and added a corresponding azimuth circle to the compass. In the Mid Tang Dynasty, the 24 directions of the compass were based on the geomagnetic South and north poles, and the magnetic needle pointed to the “noon” position, that is, the “positive needle” position. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, feng shui master Yang Junsong found that there was an angle between the geomagnetic meridian and the north and south poles (geographical meridian) determined by the shadow of the sun. He added a layer of azimuth circle on the compass, which was called “sewing needle”. In the Song Dynasty, laibuyi found that the magnetic declination became north by west, so he added a layer of azimuth circle, which was called “middle needle”.

Tianxing geomantic omen:
Raibuyi founded the Celestial Star geomantic omen theory based on the Celestial Star theory. He connected the five elements, the four major star walls, the Big Dipper, the twenty-four heavenly stars, the twenty-eight constellations and other entire star system into the water direction of the Dragon Cave sand. On the basis of Yang Gongtian’s and Di’s two panels, he introduced the twenty-eight constellations, the five elements of the Celestial Star, and added a man panel dedicated to sand removal. The site is dragon shaped and vertical, and the sky panel is double mountains and water.

Yin Zhai Feng Shui Theory:
Lai Buyi’s geomantic omen theory of yinzhai is based on the book of changes and Longmen geomantic omen theory, which advocates that the core of yinzhai geomantic omen lies in the “unity of heaven and man”, that is, the location and layout of the cemetery should be coordinated with the natural environment and astronomical orientation. He believed that geomantic omen in yinzhai was not only related to the rest of the deceased, but also directly affected the fortunes of future generations and the prosperity of the family.

Laibuyi stressed that the site selection of the shady house should be close to the mountains and rivers, and the place with high and beautiful terrain should be selected. Especially when choosing the cemetery, he recommended to choose the open terrain in front of the mountains to ensure that the “dragon vein” of the cemetery is supported by a good gas field. This site selection method is conducive to the formation of a pattern of “accumulation of wind and gas” and brings benefits to future generations.

Raibuyi also stressed that the sitting direction of the yinzhai should be consistent with the laws of celestial bodies. He believed that the sitting direction of the yinzhai should not only conform to the principle of “Feng Shui Li Qi”, but also be coordinated with the eight character chart of the family. This cooperation can ensure that the aura of the cemetery and the family fortune complement each other, and maximize the positive role of geomantic omen.

2、 Practical application
Site selection and layout of cemeteries:
When choosing the cemetery, many families strictly followed the site selection principle of laibuyi and chose the location with the back of the mountains and the front of the water source. The results showed that the career of future generations developed smoothly and the family fortune improved significantly.

The layout concept of “sitting on the mountain and facing the water” advocated by laibuyi has been successfully applied in many traditional cemeteries. This layout not only meets the basic requirements of Feng Shui, but also ensures the rest of the deceased and brings good luck to future generations.

Improve family fortune:
By learning from Lai Buyi’s geomantic omen knowledge of yinzhai, some families have successfully improved their fortunes. For example, adjust the sitting direction of the cemetery, increase vegetation and water, etc., to promote a virtuous cycle of geomantic omen.

The influence of handed down works:
Lai Buyi’s handed down works, such as the preface to Qing Wu and the chapter on urging officials, are treasures in the field of geomantic omen. These works embody the wisdom and painstaking efforts of his life, and provide a valuable reference for the research and application of Feng Shui in the future.

Lai Buyi’s theory of geomantic omen plays an important role in the field of geomantic omen, and its practical application has also achieved remarkable results. By studying and learning from Lai Buyi’s theories and methods, we can better understand and apply geomantic omen knowledge, and provide beneficial guidance for improving the fortunes of individuals and families.
